Poe was not an opium u...Ah, Griswold strikes again. Poe was not an opium user, casual or otherwise - no evidence supports that assumption. People seem to think he wrote about opium frequently - I've found it only three times in his entire collected works, usually in passing, once as a joke.<br /><br />I'd be cautious about using "mother" and "father" in relation to Frances and John Allan, too. Neither term is correct here. Poe was not much more than a ward of the Allans.<br /><br />Nevertheless, great post.
