IWW Members Published and in Print

Now the New Year is really getting started! Here are last week's
success stories.

Peggy Duffy

A young adult short story of mine has been accepted for an anthology, and
two shorts accepted in a new online venue--can't give the details yet,
but when the contracts are signed I'll post the names.

Alice Folkart

Again, again - my New Year's poem, "Hope it Fits," is up at Here
and Now (7beats)
. Had one last week too, but didn't have time to
yahoo. This one is the second or third in line, so you won't have to
scroll far to find it. The other, in last week's, is way, way, way down.

Right now I'm on the Big Island of Hawaii attending a weekend
writing workshop and loving it. Beautiful place, wild and witty
teachers, and interesting and talented workshop mates.

Hi All!

Just received word from Bent Pin Quarterly that my short fiction
"So Many Doors" has been accepted for the journal's spring issue.
Bent Pin has a unique format/philosophy in that it creatively teams
or links prose and poetry submissions on a single page. In the
editor's words: " . . . a bent pin is an object redirected from its
original configuration. It still has a point, but not in the expected
place."

That idea, the juxtaposition of poetry and prose, really appeals to
me. I'm eager to read "my other side."

Information on the journal, January issue, can be found here.

Ann Hite

I heard from a writer who reviews for The Feminist Review. This is an
online magazine I review for too. She has been assigned to review my
online magazine, The Painted Door. This was a pleasant surprise because
I had no idea it would happen.

This will be good exposure for my writers. She is going back and looking
at all issues.

I did remind her I'm more of a writer than an editor. That my strength
is in my writers.

Kristen Howe

Yahoo! Love's Chance has accepted one of my three poems.
"Killiing Me Softly" will be featured in the Summer '08 issue. This
is my second submission to their market; my last time was in fall '05.
There's no website and LC no longer pays free copies. But you can
subscribe or pay $4 for a sample copy.

Purple Dream accepted my poem "Angels are Special" and
published it on January 8. This is my second submission to them. My
first one was back in fall 2006. I didn't know until I received a
message that someone enjoyed my poem. There's no pay.

Press 1 is a fairly new e-zine. One of its editors, Arlene Ang, is a
former member of IWW, Poetry. Another editor, Valerie Fox, may
be familiar to those who had work published in the Drexel Online
Journal.

Press 1 accepts short fiction and poetry. The current issue features
the poetry of Jayne Pupek, a past member of Poetry and Practice.
The second issue has the work of John Vick, another Poetry
alumnus.

For those who wonder where writers find inspiration, some of the
contributors have included a short note on that aspect. Press 1 is
open to submissions .

The flash story they accepted, "Classified Ad," can be found here.

Thank you to the members of Practice for reading and providing
input when the story first hatched.

The Rose and Thorn has featured work by present and former
IWW members, including Wayne Scheer, Susan Townsend and
Shayla Mollohan. I'm sharing this issue with Shayla : ) Mine is a
non-fiction piece, "You Tell Me Your Name I'll Tell You Mine."

The Rose and Thorn accepts poetry, fiction (including mainstream
and genre) and non-fiction (including essays, perspective, humor,
author interviews, writing craft).

Adam Lowe

Hi all,

An essay I wrote whilst doing my BA in English, "From Wings to
Cyberspace: Teledildonics & the Gendered Body," has been selected
to appear in Queering the Fantastic. I'm so thrilled! This is my first
academic submission, and it now means I can call myself a scholar. ;-)

Wayne Scheer

Beware. "The Browbridge Brothers" are up at Muzzle Flash. The
story began at Practice. A longer version of the story involving the
brothers, "Doing God's Work," has been critiqued in Fiction and is
seeking a home.

My story "Starting Over," reviewed in Fiction, has been bought by
Espresso Fiction. Thanks to the good people of Practice and Fiction
for your help.

Alfonso Tusa

After a long, difficult, but at the end, happy road, we finally got
published my book: El Latigo del Beisbol: Una Biograf¡a de Isa¡as
Chavez. It happened on December 17th at Chacao's City Hall. And
on December 18th at Jose Bernardo Perez baseball park in Valencia,
Venezuela.
