IWW Members Published and in Print
Here we go again--another list of the accomplishments of our
distinguished members in just the past week!
Norbert Brown
Hi everybody - Here's another piece just up at Feel the Word, this
time about the Coen brothers.
Enjoy!

Enjoy reading all the Yahoo's here this month, and will add a few of
my own.
"Last of the Richardsons," a short story, will appear in April's issue of
Workers Write, Tales from the Clinic (although this upcoming issue is
not posted). Nice editor to work with who requested my approval to
make one small editing change. This short story also appeared in
Trillium Review in October 2007--Workers Writer accepts reprints.
A short story, "Song of Hope," will appear in Lay Ups and Long
Shorts, a short story anthology on the theme of sports to be published by Darby
Creek, a publisher of books for children and young adults.
I also had two stories accepted by SnipLits, returned the contract,
made requested story edits, but currently status of publication seems
to be lost in their queue.
Alice Folkart
Two of my silliest poems, "Griddle Dizzy" and "Bargain," appear in the
latest issue of Feel The Word Magazine - a fine journal full of good
stuff, and they responded
quickly.
Follow this link to see what's up! Hope you enjoy not only my work,
but some of the other stories/poems/articles there. Do let the editors
know if you like something!

Hockensmith.

Hi gang!
This is what I found in my inbox today:
"Thank you for your submission. We are pleased to accept
'Instructions on Death' for publication in Pen Pricks' April 2008 issue!
Thank you to all who have contributed crits, and especially to Wayne
Scheer for suggesting this magazine.
I'm happy.

I'm one of the new kids on the block, having been on IWW
PRACTICE for about six months now. I am so happy to report that a
non-fiction story of mine, "Fear Makes Cowards of Us All" has been
accepted by Long Story Short for their April issue. It's my very
first time to submit for publication.
Wow, what a feeling... Needless to say, I am floating on cloud 999 right
now.
Thanks for all the help and encouragement you all continue to give to
each other.
Kathy Highcove
My article is up at the North Valley Community News. I reported on a
group of aviation/aerospace companies who have formed a group to advise
engineering students at a local high school.
Ann Hite
My story "Last Year's Easter Egg" has been accepted by Long Story
Short's April Issue. Thanks to the fiction group. This story has shown
up for critting in different forms over the past two years.
April will be a big month because my Black Mountain Stories will be
featured at The Dead Mule.
So, April is going to be a great month!
Now, I if I can just get rid the flu that has taken over my body this
whole week :).

Hi all,
I received some unexpected, good news this morning. My poem"First
Born" won first place in the IBPC competition for November, judged
late. I'd written this one off because I'd never heard from them!
This poem started out as an exercise, taking a well-known poet's poem
and creating your own words and images, but became a personal
remembrance and exploration around the birth of my son. Many
thanks to all the wonderful poets on Poetry-W, who helped me craft
this into its final form.
Laurel Lamperd
Just to let you know that my Regency novel, Substitute Bride, has
been published by Wings Press and is available from their website
and Amazon.
Julie McGuire
Hello All:
I previously sent a yahoo to say that my flash piece "Blind Date
Number Eight" had been accepted by Long Story Short. The story is
now live here.
Roger Poppen
Sometime during this past month of vacation, computer breakdown,
and power outages, my story "A Journey to Now" was published in The
Painted Door.
I'm pleased to see I'm in excellent company of fellow IWW writers
and others besides. Thank you to folks on the Fiction list who critted it
(under the title "Another Woman") and to Ann Hite for another fine
issue.
Ned Resnikoff
My friend Peter Hildebrand and I co-write an article that got picked
up by the humor website Cracked.com.
Basically, the way submissions for the site work is that we submitted a
pitch in the forums, the editors liked it, and so they asked us to write up
the whole article. Then they edited, formatted and published it and paid
us each $50.
Wayne Scheer
I have more good news to report.
The Gulf Coast Writers Association has bought my story "Spring
Comes to Mississippi," for their print anthology, Teacakes and Afternoon
Tales: More Stories from Mississippi. Thanks to Fiction for critiquing this
one.
Shine Journal has been good to me and the editor has accepted a
recent flash written for Practice, "Profiling in the Supermarket,"
for their May issue. The story's title will probably be changed to
simply, "Supermarket."
Finally, my story, "Final Wish," also developed from a Practice
exercise, is up at Toasted Cheese Literary Journal.
Thanks to all of you at IWW.
Jack Shakely
Following up on Carter Jefferson's recent post about the author line,
I just got word today that my essay on pre-emptive philanthropy will
be published in a special wealth management section of the New York
Times on Sunday, March 17.
What really makes me happy is they are allowing my author line to
read "author of the historical novel The Confederate War Bonnet.
Yahoo....and wahoo.
