The Annual Festival of Women's Poetry, or FEST for short, was created by members of WOMPO, the Women's Poetry Listserv, a discussion group whose focus is women poets and their poetry.
Find it here.
Why on the Internet? To enable all to attend. No need to expend money on travel, registration, fancy hotels.
Former and current members of IWW, Moira Richards (South Africa), Shayla Mollohan (USA) and Louisa Howerow (Canada) are the administrators of the site, but the input comes from the creative energy of many.
Some highlights:
- poetry books/chapbooks (pamphlets) with sample poems: find out who is publishing, what and with whom
- links to online poems: texts, audio, webcasts
- links to interviews
- what makes a poem memorable: examples of poems and the why behind the selection
- foremothers: a sample and discussion of women's poetry from the middle ages to the twentieth century
- international section: women poets and their poetry presented by those who have read, studied, translated or interviewed them
Note that the FEST will be up forever -- as a read only -- but the FEST itself - - people posting etc. will finish at the end of November, and resume November 2009.
