IWW Members' Publishing Successes

Sometimes putting this list of accomplishments together gets a little tedious--but not today! Two firsts this time: one right at the top, another a little further down. It's great pleasure to see our members succeeding.

In my inbox today, I was happy to read that Joyful! will
publish my story "Under the Oak Tree" on the website in February, 2009. I will update with the link to the story once it has been posted.

This story began on the Practice list and matured on the Prose-P. Since this is my first time to be published, this is also my first Yahoo! A special thanks to the members of the Internet Writing Workshop for their comments and suggestions. I couldn't have done it without you.

This past year one of my essays picked up by Christian Science Monitor was about poetry -- my love-hate relationship with it. Today I saw that essay discussed on a blog. We writers rarely get to see or hear how a reader responds to what we write, so this was especially fulfilling. In the discussion he referred to a quote that I thought you all might appreciate, too.

"The role of a writer is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say."-Anais Nin

Isn't it the most exciting thing to read something or find a truth while writing that you hadn't considered before? Here's the website discussion if anyone's interested. There are some other good thoughts about what poetry contributes.

The blog discussion is here. And if by chance you want to read my essay at CSM, it's here.

Some of you know that my wife, Randi, has written a book on relationships, currently titled The Relationship Bible: Winning at Love. She's found an agent in San Francisco who likes the book, and will try to sell it for her. I guess it's half-a-yahoo because it's not sold yet, and the yahoo is for me as the helper, too.

Randi's grandparents came over from old Russia and brought with them the concept of the evil eye. You can't get your hopes up too much or things will go badly. So she's very pleased about the agent, but cautious.

My parents revered science, not "superstition," so my hopes aren't as high, and I'm more fatalistic. But the thought of her success does make me smile.

The agent recommended that title over the previous one, which was Monogamy in the Twenty-First Century. We've noticed that since I made the change to our web site, we've been getting about 50% more hits than before. Probably because of the word Bible.

My review of Love and Consequences: A Memoir of Hope and Survival, by Margaret B. Jones, appears at Feminist Review.

Somehow my memoir has garnered a review by the New York Times. It is the second
section of a "two-for-one" review, but it's favorable.

By the way, through the good offices of my local 50-times-published genre author, I made it onto a blog supposedly watched by the media types who are looking for authors who ... well, march to the proverbial different percussionist. Well, I "roll," but you get the idea.

My first book under the pen name Tymber Dalton, Love Slave for Two, came out yesterday with Siren-BookStrand. Upon waking up this morning, it's already at #5 on BookStrand's 14-day bestseller list.

SQUEE!!!!!

I'm so excited!!!

I was asked to take a photo of the new baker in town His store, Mark it with G, specializes in Parisian macaroons along with his creations. The article is online, but you need to subscribe to the Shelter Island Reporter. To make life easier, I've posted it on my blog, if you're interested in reading the article and taking a look at the pix. The photo credit is under my "pen name" R. G. Sand. And my beloved's byline was changed to "G" because he's very private and doesn't want to be identified on the blog.

I'm also pleased to announce that The Internet Review of Books has a new holiday special featuring a list of suggestions from readers, reviewers, and the editors for books that just might make the perfect gift for someone on your list. My recommendations are two that I loved: The Zookeeper's Wife and Inquisition in Eden. You'll also see the rest of the terrific books that have been recommended.
