I have three 55ers in the November issue of Pen Pricks, but I can't remember which ones. You won't see them anyway. Their latest issue is September. LOL. Or maybe not.
But thanks to Wayne's recent Yahoo, "Lovesick" is now up at Drunk and
Lonely Men. I don't care if they are drunk and lonely, they're quick!
Thanks to everyone who helped hone this one.

If anyone from nonfiction wants to see a product of their crits, my essay "Heirloom plants on the Family Tree" is up at the Christian Science Monitor. Thanks everyone for your help!

Here's another book review: An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination: A Memoir, by Elizabeth McCracken. Hope you enjoy.

Three reviews this month
In Gumshoe Review: Veil of Lies: A Medieval Noir by Jeri Westerson
SFRevu.com reviews:
James Blaylock, Knights of the Cornerstone--Knights (contemporary) and Veil (medieval) both deal with Veronica's Veil. Knights also rings in the Knights Templar. Blaylock uses endless cliches played for humor.
Deborah Chester, The Crown--Chester continues her series of romantic fantasies set in her world, this time pitting light and shadow (good and evil) against one another.

My piece "How to Build a Reunion Cookbook" has been accepted by
Reunions Magazine, publication date to be determined. Thanks to all who offered critiques!

Hi everyone! I'm thrilled to announce that I've been asked to guest judge
the fifteenth Dame Lisbet Throckmorton fiction contest at Coffee House Fiction. Scroll down a little in this blog to read the details.

My essay "Dandelions" is up at Gowanus.
The formatting leaves something to be desired, but they pay a penny a word.
My Christmas essay, "Mele Kalikimaka," is up at Long Story Short. Thanks to those who critiqued it on the Fiction list, though it is more creative nonfiction.
Happy holidays to all.

I just received the author's copies of my book, the Insiders' Guide to Tucson (6th edition, co-authored with Mary Paganelli Votto). Should be in the various bookstores soon!

This has been a good weekend for me.
My nonfiction essay about my mother, "Final Words," has been accepted for the Ultimate Mom anthology and netted me a cool $200. The book should be out for Mother's Day.
Also, my holiday story "Christmas at the Post Office," recently critiqued in Fiction, tied for Third Place at Cynic Magazine's Not so Cynical Christmas Contest, earning me $25.
My (sarcastic) holiday story, "Holiday Spirit," is featured at Sniplits this week. That means you can hear it read for free and save eighty-eight cents!
And thanks to Kathy H. for reminding me of an old humorous piece I had submitted to Practice a while back. I dusted it off, played with it, gave it a new title, "Family History," and it was accepted at Dead Mule for their holiday issue coming soon. If this continues, I'm going to have to stop playing the grinch.
Back in September, Iguana Review, a print journal, tentatively accepted "Prairie Flower." I just got word that the tentative acceptance is now definite, and my story will appear in their Winter/Spring issue.
Finally, this is for those of us who need instant gratification more than money. I found a new site called, Drunk and Lonely Men, which asks for stories under 250 words. The sole guideline is "Depress us." I sent them a depressing flash I wrote for a Practice exercise, "Morning." They accepted it in a matter of minutes and put it up on their site within an hour or so. That was yesterday. Today, new stories are up and mine is available only in their archives. Now that's quick. My story is here.
Thanks to all for your helpful critiques and encouragement. If I weren't so selfish, I'd share my new-found wealth with you.

The Guardian, a newspaper in the UK, has put my op-ed piece on the current
Thai political problems, "Shuffling Towards Fascism," on its Comment blog.
You can read it here, and leave a comment if you want!
