Another good crop for close to the holidays! Nice work, fellow IWW members!

"Join the Army" and "Peacetime Duty in Korea" are my two 55ers in Drunk and Lonely Men #5.

Those guys are so fast they post their latest issue to their archives at the same time. Why not? Safer that way.

Thanks to the folks who helped with these.

Okay, I just got the greatest Christmas gift ever. I was talking to my writer’s
liaison from the publisher who is publishing my book Wally McWinkleBean the Noodle
Adventure. She told me the book is on schedule. Will go into editing next month, and get published in March.

Then she sent me a contract for my collection of Pugsley short stories. So I want to thank everyone on here--without your help this would have never happened.. So Thank You for helping me get this Christmas surprise.

Here's my most recent book review, Sea of Poppies. Enjoy. Please check out the whole magazine. I do love working with the editors at the Internet Review of Books.

Hi, everyone. Since we're getting down to the final weeks of 2008, I received today in the mail my issue of Poet's Pen, where my three poems were published and paid for. I just want to share the news with you, as I'm waiting to get my copy of Northern Stars in my mail between now and 12/31/08. Next year, my goal is paying markets (w/some copy markets and fewer online/email ones) as I revise my poems.
Cheers.

Not every publishing venue appreciates excerpts, at least in my experience over the last few months. I sometimes feel they're regarded in the same way as reprints.

But that sort of thing doesn't keep a stubborn person from banging head-against-wall.

Chapter Three of my memoir was excerpted for reprint in Wordgathering, which is produced by members of the Inglis House Poetry Workshop. It's a poetry publication. What I know about poetry begins and almost ends with Ogden Nash's ode to "Fleas" (Adam/Had'em), and so I'm honored.

Today the El Paso Writers' League gave out a bunch of writing awards including a couple for me: a second prize for poetry and a first for humorous fiction. They've also roped me into organizing the competition for 2009, which gives me no advantage as a contestant, since judges are outsiders who don't know the entrants' names. For agreeing to do that, they gave me a gift card with a $2 bill, which is pretty good-double the annual salary the head of Ford has offered to take.

In case you're interested, the entries are on my blog.

More instant gratification from my new favorite zine, Drunk and Lonely Men. I subbed a flash, "Spring Training," on Friday, and it was on their site on Sunday. It was probably gone the next day.

The Shine Journal has agreed to reprint "Like Men" in their February issue.

My touching holiday story "Family History" is up at Dead Mule.

Thanks to all.

Two poems, "Homesick" and "The Islander," up at A Tender Touch, way down in the right hand column.

Happy days.
