Quiet time, but what we have are good ones. Next year will be even better.

A couple of weeks or so ago, out of the blue, I got a call from folks at a documentary production company working on a 10-part color WW2 series to be shown on the History Channel next year.
They had seen Crack! and Thump on Amazon and wanted to review a copy. Today, my Christmas present was that they licensed the book and will follow Charlie Scheffel through the war as one of seven main characters in the series. In our many conversations, they commented on how well the book placed the reader on the battlefield with Charlie in combat scenes that rang true.
I subbed many of those scenes to the Non-fiction list, where I got much insightful help from people way more accomplished than I in this confounding and capricious game of writing. I am especially grateful to Diane Diekman, who applied tough love to an early draft and coaxed me out of the fetal position about it.
I started the book to try to give people some small idea of what ordinary citizens like Charlie sacrificed to achieve victory. When I got moving letters from old soldiers who thanked me and said the book stirred memories, I thought it couldn't get any better.
But it can, in large part because of this wonderful group.
Thanks so much.

Poets and Writers magazine mentioned my novel My Life at First Try among new and noteworthy novels.

My personal essay "Risk The Ebb Tide," critted by many here, was accepted for publication by Brightside Publications in an upcoming anthology about giving. A special thanks to all of those who helped me with this piece. I will make $200.00, so that's not too bad.
And I was asked to do an interview for Querytracker.net. The purpose for this website is to connect writers with agents. The website owner contacted me and asked if I would like to tell how I came to find an agent. If you're looking for an agent, this website is a good resource and it is free.

Well, since we're almost at year's end, I got my copy of Northern Stars today, when my two poems are published. So it's a nice way to end the year.

I got a lovely Christmas gift yesterday--my new book, The Insiders' Guide to Phoenix (6th edition), arrived on my doorstep. It looks great, of course
Earlier this year, I worked about 10 hours/day, 7 days/week on two Arizona guidebooks (one for Phoenix and one for Tucson). The Tucson book came out a month ago, and now the new Phoenix book is here. So it was a tough way to start the year but grand way to end.
Anyone heading out to Arizona can feel free to e-mail me for tips on what to see and where to eat. I have a few gems stashed away that I will share.
