A Writer'sTool Kit
I use OpenOffice, as I've mentioned before on this blog. It's a wonderful program, and available free, or at least free with the implication that those of us who benefit should support such a worthwhile endeavor.
I've found it simply the best word processing tool I've ever used. Actually, it has nearly every function available via Microsoft Office with the advantage of cleaner, more compact code as well as a very intuitive interface.
Even OO's Writer thesaurus is better, at least in my opinion.
Nevertheless, whenever I write, I always keep a browser window open for Lexico Publishing Group's on-line Thesaurus. It's the best I've found on-line. In fact, there's a dictionary, encyclopedia, and other reference tools available as well as "premium content."
I have a tendency to repeat words when writing. If that's your tendency as well, I suggest keeping a thesaurus tool available. And if that tendency prevails elsewhere, you can even download a tool to put a dictionary, thesaurus, and reference tools on your Firefox browser search bar.
