IWW Members in Print and Published

Here's this week's list of triumphs achieved by members of the IWW. It starts with "H" last names this time; maybe "S" would be good next week.

Lynne Hinkey:

My short story "The Visit" (expanded from a practice piece) was short-listed in my first-ever writing contest - a "weekender challenge" at Write Link!

Thanks to everyone for your crits and comments on all the practice exercises.
It's so helpful--I know I still have a long way to go, but feel like I've improved my writing skills by leaps and bounds since joining IWW.

Carey Link:

My poems "Memorial," "To come Into Being," "In The Margins," and "Menagerie" have been accepted for the fall edition of the on-line publication Ken*Again.

Paul Pekin:

Just published, my short story "Letter From a Non-Trad" in Karamu (spring 2007).

Karamu is a print literary magazine published by Eastern Illinois University, 600 Lincoln Avenue, Charleston Il 61920. The current issue runs 150 book sized pages, contains 18 short stories, all by published authors, and quite a bit of first rate poetry. So my story won't be on line, but you can buy this book, or maybe find it in the Chicago Public Library when it gets in. (Double yahoo, my story is on page 2.)

"Letter From a Non-Trad" was subbed on the fiction list a while back under the title "Letter to the King." (Some of you may remember it as a letter to Elvis.) One of the critters, can't remember who, insisted my "King" title sucked big time, and for once I paid attention. Thanks.

Wayne Scheer:

An old revised story, "Call Me Marty," critiqued in Fiction a while back, has been accepted by Blood and Thunder: Musings on the Art of Medicine, an annual journal published by the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. They publish fiction, poetry and essays relevant to health professionals.

My flash, "Someone Important," is a finalist in the Ultra Short Story Contest sponsored by Binnacle, at the University of Maine. The story will appear in print later this year.

Finally, Burst, an online paying zine has published my flash humor piece, "The Naked City."

Thanks, once more, to everyone at IWW.

Joanna M. Weston:

This one is really quite fun: five tanka of mine (these are 5-line-poems, a Japanese form pre-dating haiku) have been printed on a decorative poster being distributed around Toronto and Scarborough, Ontario, and Shawnigan Lake and Duncan, B.C. The poster is pink and orange and definitely eye-catching.

All by snail mail, but she's careful, thoughtful,
and committed to broadcasting poetry.

Chris Weigand:

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my latest article with you all. It's a little different than what I usually send you, but hey, different is good too. It's called "Secret Wizards," and it's in Mom Writer's Literary Magazine.

Enjoy and God Bless.

Peggy Duffy:

I have a published haibun in Simply Haiku. You have to click on contents, then look for my name under Haibun. Haibun is not a form a generally write in; this came out of a Practice exercise and someone there suggested it lended itself to the form.

Also, my monthly real estate column, newly revived:
"Keeping An Eye on Real Estate-Short Sales," in The South County (VA) Chronicle.

Jennifer Gibbons:

I'm new to the list, and I found out this week that an essay I wrote about a
former classmate dating Princess Diana's brother will be published in my local
paper, the Contra Costa (CA) Times, next month.
