IWW Members' Publishing Successes For The Week Ending 6/5/22

Brigids Gate Press sent me my pdf and Kindle copies of the anthology, Musings of the Muses, which includes my short story on Aspasia. She was close friends with Socrates and was tried when he was. He got the death sentence, while she did not. She was also the hetaira that Pericles left his wife for.

My story is about her time at the Temple of Asclepius, the liminal time and space between life and death. It's here that she tells her story. My story's based on years of research on Aspasia and her culture. Soon, the press will send me my contributor's copy. I'm looking forward to getting the hard copy and adding it to my home library shelves.

I find ancient myths and legends fascinating and the anthology includes engaging retold poetry and short stories about Medusa, the Amazons, the Sirens, Arachne, Medea, Circe, Cassandra, Eurydice, Ariadne, Atalanta, Pandora, Xanthippe, Persephone, Hecate, Hestia, Helen, Aspasia, and many others. All the pieces are told from her point of view.

This was exciting news for me. Hope you get equally happy news. Musings of the Muses is available in a Kindle edition.

My short story "Night" (6000 words) was accepted by The Chamber magazine, which publishes dark fiction. They don't pay, and response time is about two months.

My set of ten loosely linked micro/flash stories, "One Day," was accepted by Mean Pepper Vine, a new Indian magazine. They pay Rs.2000. (Their rates are: Rs.750 for flash, Rs.1500 for nonfiction, and Rs.2000 for short fiction.)

Coincidentally, "Night" is one of the pieces from "One Day." "Night" was originally 200 words; I decided to develop it as a longer story. I'm also developing "Evening" from this set into a longer story. "Noon" from this set was published, as is, on Flash Fiction Magazine a couple of years ago.

Both "One Day" and the revised "Night" were critiqued on Fiction earlier this year. I'm grateful to everyone on the list.
