IWW Members Published and in Print
Big Week! Our members are out there everywhere!

Hey All,
In light of the recent contest discussion I thought I would share that I
placed in the writing contest put on by the English Department of
Indiana University - Southeast. It was only open to students (and was
free to enter) and I won't know exactly where I placed (1st, 2nd, 3rd or
honorable mention) until the ceremony next week. The award is for a
research piece I did on the history of radio barn dances (Grand Ole
Opry, etc).
The second part of the Yahoo is that the story I recently submitted to the
NFiction list (on Marty Stuart and Del McCoury) has been published in
this week's LEO. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I'm right there with Wayne and Ann in the next Feel the Word issue.
Gabriel is publishing my review of "Funny Games"--and I agree, he's
been terrific to work with.

In the last six weeks, I've had seven haiku published on-line or in print: three
in Moonset, two in Chrysanthemum, and two in The Heron's Nest. I
also tied for first place in the Shiki Monthly Kukai Contest with my free
format entry for November. As for haiga, my entries for the October and
November contests (49th and 50th) are both up on the
World Haiku Association's website.
Still having fun, which is what this is all about!

A poem of mine, "So What?", is up at 7Beats along with some other really
good work. Be sure to catch the first two poems, "Tortilla Lesson," by
Brigid Milliagan and "Libido," by Larissa Szporluk. They humble me. I'm
honored to be in their company.
And scroll down and down to find me, enjoying the great photo images
as you go and stopping to nibble at the other exciting writing along the
way.

Just returned from a Turkey Day holiday and found a Congrats from the
editors of Cezanne's Carrot. I managed to win one of their "Return of
the Light" slots--first place for the Flash Fiction category. I even get a
pay day--$100 for my efforts. CC has published my work before, so I'm
delighted with the honor. My flash along with the two other winning
entries [CNF and longer fiction] will appear in the Winter Solstice issue,
due out around December 21st.
Nice way to wrap up the year! Cezanne's Carrot guidelines and schedules can
be found here.

Looks like I'll be joining Wayne Scheer in the August, 2008, issue of
Conceit Magazine. My flash fiction "Dinky Little Kitchen" was accepted
over the weekend. The Conceit editor, Perry Terrell, is friendly and
easy to work with. Thanks to everyone here at the list for the bits of
good advice and general writing-obsession support.

I don't believe I've mentioned that an essay previously published in CSM
is in the Dec./Jan. issue of Birds and Blooms magazine. I love resales,
especially when they pay as much as the first sale! Or more. The essay:
"Finding Home in a Dr. Seuss World."

Hello Critters--
I wrote two articles for a local paper, The North Valley Community
News: the restaurant review and an astronaut-visits-school article. I'm
the new restaurant reviewer. Both articles are on the front page.

Hi, everyone -
My creative non-fiction essay "Desperately Seeking Joe" has been
accepted by The Painted Door. It'll be in the January edition. Thanks to
Ann for taking on such a big task and running a great forum for writers,
and to those of you who critted the piece--especially Roger and
Wayne--for your great feedback!
Thanks everyone!
Ann Hite
My story "Sight" will appear in Feel The Word's next issue. Great venue
to work with and the editor is wonderful. I join Wayne. Movie and
music reviews are needed for future issues.
And in the Feminist Review, there's my review of Jonathan Franzen's
collection of essays titled The Discomfort Zone.
Robert Hyers
Fiction that I had critted here ages ago, "Dreamin'," is now up at Feel
The Word. I'm in fantastic IWW company! And, as was said by others,
the editor is great to work with.

Amazon now has a listing for my novel Train to Yesterday. Anyone who
plans to buy the book can now order it on Amazon. The book is
scheduled to be available in February. Five Star sets its print run based
on library standing orders and Amazon preorders. Unfortunately, their
books don't always make it into a second printing. It's a hardcover, and
Amazon sells it for just under $26 with free shipping option. Not sure
how long that will last. Anyway, it's on its way at last!
Two more reviews accepted by Gumshoe: Sword of God and Agnes and
the Hitman. Reading provides perspective on what publishers are
buying. Have read a number of over the top books dealing with religious
themes or the Middle East of late. Stereotypes abound. The f-word
appears to be required. Hot sex also helps. Of course, I'm reading mainly
popular genre books, but it can depress me at times.

A small Yahoo from my side. A short filler I wrote on the Great
Fruitcake Toss held in Manitou Springs, CO, each year, now appears in
US Airways Magazine.

My story "Zack" is "up" at Sylvan Echo.
Wayne Scheer
I have a few acceptances to report. One involves patience and delayed
gratification, the others immediate gratification.
I wrote an essay for a Teacher as Hero print anthology early this year
and received the official acceptance today. The expected publication
date is Spring, 2008, when they will send me $100 as payment. It's
taken a while, but the editor, Susan Reynolds, has done her best to keep
me and the other writers informed. She's now working on a new Hero
anthology--My Mom Is My Hero.
Now for immediate gratification: As a lark, I wrote a review of the
recently released movie by Robert Redford, Lions for Lambs, and it was
accepted for the December issue of Feel the Word. The editor, Gabriel
Ricard, also accepted a reprint of my story "Growing Up" for the
January issue. He's enthusiastic and energetic, and he knows how to
flatter his writers (at least me). A pleasure to work with.
Finally, speaking of an editor who knows how to flatter, Ann Hite (of
IWW fame) has agreed to reprint my story "Understanding Momma" in
the January, 2008, issue of The Painted Door. I'm pleased to know that
this one will be in print again.
Thanks to all.

This is beginning to feel like an IWW issue of Feel the Word: I've had
poems accepted for the next issue, too. Delighted to be in such good
company. With many thanks to the Poetry list!
